Health and safety

Energy Resources of Australia Ltd (ERA) is committed to its objective of achieving zero injuries. This means having no injuries or occupational illnesses by creating an injury free workplace where everyone goes home safely each day. Safety is our most important value.

ERA measures safety by the All Injury Frequency Rate. This is a measure of all reportable injuries - lost time injuries, restricted work injuries and medical treatment cases - per 200,000 hours worked.

ERA first achieved certification to the Australian Standard and New Zealand Standard for Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems (AS4801) in 2005.

As part of the Rio Tinto Group, ERA uses Rio Tinto safety standards as a basis for management leadership and employee involvement, and therefore manage and control workplace hazards to advance safety and occupational health performance.

ERA works with Rio Tinto coal, iron and aluminium business units to benchmark and share best practice in health and safety procedures and audits.
