Ms Kaufman was appointed as a Non-Executive Director of the ERA Board in November 2017.

Sinead Kaufman has worked for Rio Tinto for over 20 years and is currently the Managing Director - Coal, Salt & Uranium in the Energy & Minerals product group. Sinead has accountability for Rio Tinto Coal Australia’s Hail Creek and Kestrel coal operations in Queensland; Dampier Salt’s operations at Dampier, Port Headland and Lake MacLeod in Western Australia; Energy Resources Australia’s uranium operations in the Northern Territory; and Rössing Uranium Ltd in Namibia.

Prior to taking on an expanded portfolio in December 2017, Sinead was Managing Director, Rio Tinto Coal Australia from August 2016. Prior to this, she was Programme Lead for Leading for Success, a global leadership initiative within Rio Tinto. Before this she led various Rio Tinto Iron Ore mines in the Pilbara as General Manager, Operations, including West Angelas and Robe Valley, Tom Price and Marandoo and Paraburdoo Operations. She also led the Rio Tinto Iron Ore mental health working group which has provided a framework to promote positive mental health and wellbeing to employees and their families across Western Australia.

Sinead first joined Rio Tinto as a geologist in the United Kingdom and has since gained international mining experience across a range of commodities including copper, aluminium, bauxite and iron ore in both underground and open pit environments.

Sinead holds a Masters in Mineral Exploration from the University of Leicester and a Degree in Applied Geology with Honours from the University of Birmingham.
