ERA maintains a strong focus on Indigenous employment and is a major employer in Jabiru and the West Arnhem region.

Indigenous employees are engaged in a variety of roles within ERA, ranging from operational functions through to leadership positions at superintendent and senior-supervisor levels.

Each year, ERA engages new Indigenous trainees. These trainees work in areas including plant operations; water management, warehousing and community relations and they are paired with workplace mentors.

The Mentoring Programme for Indigenous trainees is part of ERA’s Indigenous Employment Strategy. It includes flexible work arrangements, workplace literacy and numeracy training and support for students from local communities in work experience and school-based apprenticeships.

ERA works with local businesses and training providers on a Pre-Employment Programme aimed at school leavers and other local people seeking to enter the workforce or find new employment.

The programme, which is part of ERA's Indigenous Employment and Diversity programme, aims to help local people develop the additional skills needed to enter the local workforce. Often ERA will recruit new Indigenous trainees via the Pre-Employment Programme.

Cultural Awareness

ERA’s Cultural Awareness Programme provides new employees and contractors with an introduction to the unique cultural, environmental and historical values of the Kakadu region and the Mirarr Traditional Owners.

The programme is delivered in partnership with the Gundjeihmi Aboriginal Corporation representing the Mirarr Traditional Owners.
